EL JUEGO
THE GAME

In Yie Ar Kung-Fu II the playing system is basically the same as in its predecessor, with some novelties. This time you control Lee Young, son of Oolong (Lee in the NES version), and you must defeat your enemies again in one-on-one fights (eight rivals this time). You can move left and right, jump, crouch and attack employing the four available attack types. Each fighter can receive a maximum of nine impacts before losing the fight. If you win the combat, you will fight against the next warrior. However, in Yie Ar Kung-Fu II, before confronting each rival, you must advance a brief section of the game eliminating or dodging a horde of "mini fighters" that will try to finish you.

You can use some items to make your fights easier. If you eliminate a formation of three "mini fighters", you will get a tea leaf. When you get five leaves, you will be able to have a cup of tea by pressing the key T and your energy will be renewed. In addition, a bowl of Chinese noodles will appear along each fight, if you pick it up, the screen border will turn blue and you will be invincible for a few seconds. It is possible to obtain extra lives by accumulating points.

Your rivals this time will be: Yen-Pei and his dangerous iron pigtail; Lan-Fang, the fan thrower; Po-Chin and his paralyzing attack; When-Hu, owner of a magical mask; Wei-Chin, the master of the boomerang; Mei-Ling and her sharpen daggers; Han-Chen, who counts on his powerful explosives and fearsome Li-Jen, lord of the storms.

The game ends when you defeat Li-Jen and you finish with the Chop Suey clan.

It is posible to play in two players mode (player two can choose between three of Lee Young's rivals).

VALORACIÓN
RATING

Puntos a destacar:

The sequel to Yie Ar Kung-Fu is disappointing, plain and simple. The graphics, backgrounds, colouring and animations are mediocre, and some of the new ideas, like the inclusion of the "mini fighters", are ridiculous (couldn't they just have traded them for flying shurikens or so?). The number of possible movements has been drastically reduced and, to make it even worse, the game is so easy that it's ridiculous. A reworked version of Yie Ar Kung-Fu with new backgrounds and characters would have been so much better than this...

Highlights:

1.- Some different elements are introduced, like the "mini fighters" or the items you can pick up. Nice try, but they could have been substituted for more suitable elements.

2.- There is no shortage of rivals.

3.- A few of the new enemies are quite charismatic, shame they are badly drawn.

4.- The fighters employ different weapons and strategies.

Could be improved:

1.- Graphics are average at best, and the idea of colouring all the characters plain white makes them look even less detailed.

2.- It is so easy that it ends up being a surreal experience. You will probably finish the game the first time you play it.

3.- The fighting is slow and confusing, each time you hit your adversary he shakes for a while, which makes the gameplay less fluid. The fact that both characters are white doesn't help either.

4.- There are only four attack types available, but it doesn't really matter anyway, there is no real difference if you use them all or just one of them, you will win anyway.

Overall rating: 4/10.
