EL JUEGO
THE GAME

Express Raider combina dos formatos de juego diferentes: algunos niveles (los impares) se juegan como juego de lucha uno contra uno, mientras que otros (los pares), se juegan como shoot'em up.

El juego comienza en la estación de trenes de Gold City, donde tendrás que eliminar a un guarda en la estación y a un pequeño grupo de coyotes. Entonces comenzará tu aventura.

En los niveles 1, 3, 5 y 7 debes caminar sobre el tren de izquierda a derecha hasta alcanzar la locomotora, tarea que no será tan fácil. Los vigilantes del tren tratarán de detener tu marcha dándote una paliza, arrollándote con pilas de pesadas cajas, disparándote o arrojándote botellas o incluso paladas de carbón a la cara. Por si esto fuera poco también tendrás que luchar contra salvajes manadas coyotes. Afortunadamente, como buen bandido adelantado a su tiempo, eres experto en artes marciales y podrás ocuparte de cualquier agresor. Lucharás contra un único enemigo en cada vagón, una vez derrotado dicho enemigo, continuarás al siguiente.

En los niveles 2, 4, 6 y 8 cabalgarás sobre tu caballo al lado del tren, disparando a los viajeros. Estos te dispararán y arrojarán objetos, pero puedes esquivar sus ataques escondiéndote tras tu caballo. Una vez eliminados seis enemigos en un vagón puedes continuar al siguiente, hasta alcanzar la locomotora. Podrás ganar puntos extra si disparas a las bolsas de dinero que te ofrecen el pato y la mujer de rojo... ¡no la mates o perderás una vida!

En ambas modalidades de juego existe un límite de tiempo para eliminar a tus enemigos en cada vagón. Si lo excedes, estallará una bomba y perderás una vida. El juego termina cuando atracas con éxito los ocho trenes.

Express Raider combines two different game formats: some levels (the odd ones) are played as in a one on one fighting game, while others (the even ones) are played as in a shoot'em up.

The game starts at Gold City's train station, where you will have to eliminate a train station guard and a small group of coyotes. Then your adventure will begin.

In levels 1, 3, 5 and 7 you must walk on the train from left to right until you reach the locomotive, which won't be an easy task. The train guardians will try to stop your march by beating you, knocking you over using piles of heavy boxes, shooting at you and throwing bottles and even coal shovelfuls at your face. As if it wasn't enough, you will also have to fight against wild coyote packs. Fortunately, as a good bandit ahead his time, you are a martial arts expert and you will be able to get rid of any aggressor. You will fight against one only enemy in each carriage, once said enemy is beaten, you will continue to the next one.

In levels 2, 4, 6 and 8 you will ride on your horse by the train, shooting at the travellers. These will shoot back and throw objects at you, but you can dodge their attacks by hiding behind your horse. Once six enemies in a carriage have been eliminated you can continue to the next one, until you reach the locomotive. You will be able to score bonus points if you shoot at the money bags that the duck and the woman in red offer you... Don't kill her or you will lose a life!

There is a time limit to eliminate your enemies in each carriage in both game modes. If you exceed it a bomb will explode and you will lose a life. The game finishes when you successfully rob the eight trains.

VALORACIÓN
RATING

Express Raider es muy dinámico y divertido de jugar. No es uno de esos juegos que almacenas para siempre una vez lo has terminado. Altamente recomendado.

Puntos a destacar:

1.- La variedad de los enemigos, y no me refiero a enemigos que tienen diferente aspecto pero se comportan igual que los demás, me refiero a enemigos que actúan, atacan y se mueven de forma diferente.

2.- El contexto y los escenarios, es un soplo de aire fresco encontrar un juego de lucha uno contra uno (al menos parcialmente) sin tus típicos escenarios estilo kung-fu ni tus personajes ataviados con kimonos.

3.- Los gráficos son nítidos, no extremadamente detallados, cierto, pero no hay apenas conflictos de gráficos o colores y los personajes se mueven bastante bien. Hay una amplia variedad de movimientos también.

4.- Ofrece dos juegos en uno.

5.- Es una conversión bastante fiel de la máquina recreativa.

Aspectos mejorables:

1.- No hay enemigos finales, habría sido genial encontrarlos al final de cada tren.

2.- Los niveles de lucha uno contra uno son a veces demasiado fáciles.

3.- Los niveles de shoot'em up son a veces demasiado difíciles, Es muy difícil no perder una vida o dos en algunos vagones debido al límite de tiempo.

4.- Los gráficos podrían ser un poco más detallados. A veces son demasiado simples.

5.- No hay un final real, una vez atracas los ocho trenes comienzas el juego de nuevo. ¡Ni siquiera el típico "felicidades"!

Valoración global: 7'5/10.

Express Raider is very dynamic and fun to play. It's not one of these games that you shelve forever once you have finished it. Highly recommended.

Highlights:

1.- The variety of enemies, and I don't mean enemies that look different but act the same as the others, I mean enemies that act, attack and move differently.

2.- The context and scenarios, it is a breath of fresh air finding an (at least partly) one-on-one fighting game without your typical kung-fu style scenarios and your kimono-wearing characters.

3.- The graphics are neat, not extremely detailed, true, but there's hardly any graphic or colour clash and they move quite well. There's a wide variety of movements, too.

4.- It features two games in one.

5.- It's a quite faithful coin -op conversion.

Could be improved:

1.- There are no final enemies, it would have been great finding them at the end of each train.

2.- The one on one fighting levels are sometimes too easy.

3.- The shoot'em up levels are sometimes too hard, it is very difficult not losing a life or two in some carriages due to the time limit.

4.- The graphics could be a little more detailed. Sometimes they are too simple.

5.- There is no real ending, once you rob the eight trains you start the game again. Not even the typical "congratulations!"
